As a local business marketer, I often get asked about the difference between Google Maps and Google Search. This blog post explains the difference between the two on Laptop and Phone, and shows how Google uses both Maps and Search to connect your local business with prospective customers.

Some searches show Google Maps in Search
A search that doesn’t show Google Maps in Google Search: “Who invented pizza”.

A search that shows Google Maps in Google Search: “pizza”.

Another search that shows Google Maps in Google Search: “restaurants”.

Google Maps vs Search on a Phone
The first screen below (left) shows a search for “restaurants” in Google Search on Phone. The second screen below (right) shows the same search for “restaurants” in the Google Maps app on Phone.

Most people view Google Maps Business Profiles from their Phone
The screen below shows the statistics for a supermarket’s Google Maps page.

The stats show that out of 32,000 views, 94% of people viewed the Business Profile from their phone (82% from the Google Maps app and 12% from Google Search) and just 6% viewed the Business Profile from their laptop or desktop.
I hope this blog post was helpful in explaining the difference between Google Maps and Search as it relates to your local business.
